Fall Golf Camp
OLF Elementary started a golf camp in the fall of 2018 for students in kindergarten through 6th grade. Under the direction of Finley Hewes, PE teacher, 32 students enrolled in this new program held at Sunkist Country Club in Biloxi. According to Coach Hewes,”the majority of my players are beginners so my focus is to introduce them to the game and have fun. I hope this introduction encourages them to play on their own and hopefully parents will take them out on the course”. In the lessons, Coach Hewes emphasizes the short game (chipping and putting) and gives them time on the driving range.
Spring Golf
During the spring, OLF Elementary fields a golf team for students in kindergarten through 6th grade. In the spring of 2019, more that 35 students participated. The team plays at least four matches at area golf courses against junior club teams. The competition includes a six-hole round of golf and a Drive, Chip, and Putt Skills Challenge.
New Putting Green on OLF Campus
In the winter of 2019, OLF Elementary installed a new putting green on campus along with a full swing practice area. Coach Hewes plans on putting this new practice facility to work for the students at OLF Elementary.
